Always-always disinfect your lipsticks if you plan on using them on other people, even if it was just one swatch on your hand. This is also a good idea if you have been using your lipstick while being sick.
Here is how I do it:
Step 1
Wipe the lipstick down. Some people even cut a top piece off.
Step 2
Take a glass and fill it with 90% alcohol.

Step 3
Dip your lipstick into the alcohol. Hold for 30-40 seconds.
Step 4
Wipe it down again.

Step 5
Let it dry naturally
And voila, your lipstick is safe to use!
I chose these wearable and universally flattering shades of lipsticks for my kit and depotted them into small round containers from a crafts store (beads section).
This is a mixture or Rimmel, Jordana, Wet'n'Wild, PUPA and Art Visage.
I sprayed the knife and a stainless steel palette with alcohol, cut lipsticks into chunks and smashed into the pots. Nothing fancy.
Looks cute, though. And it is also very convenient.
I hope that was helpful!
PS: Bonus picture of my cat sniffing the lipsticks:
